B&B Watch is operated by Mick Hanly, who with
his wife Marie also runs a three bedroomed Bed & Breakfast establishment
at "Glendine", Tawnies Upper, Clonakilty, West Cork. Mick
is a native of Clonmel, Co. Tipperary and has lived in Clonakilty
since 1994, having moved there from Cork City. Marie, nee Hackett,
is a native of Youghal, Co. Cork.
The idea originated from a practice between B&B's
of emailing other premises requesting an exchange of business cards.
This helps to improve referral business. It was just a matter of
broadening that concept to include as many B&B premises as possible
and to exchange information instead of business cards. B&B Watch
now acts as the central hub for emailing to all the other premises.
An email alert that is sent to B&B Watch is then sent out to
all the other B&B Watch members.
This ability to circulate information swiftly, greatly
reduces the opportunities for fraudsters, conmen, yahoos and messers
who prey on the genuine goodwill and trust of many of the accommodation
sector and also raises the security awareness of B&B proprietors.
